OUR RATINGS ARE 4.8 OR HIGHER

Our Favorite Window and Door Brands

At HRTI we prefer industry-leading (and award winning) replacement window and door brands. Among the numerous options available, we highly recommend a few selected options for homeowners. We prefer these windows and doors because of their exceptional quality, appealing aesthetics, energy efficiency, and durability.

Don’t buy cheap windows and doors that will need replacing in 5-10 years. It’s not worth the initial savings. They won’t give you the same return on your investment as good quality windows and doors will.

An energy efficient window will keep down your heating and cooling bills. HRTI won’t install windows of lesser quality on our own homes, and we don’t believe in putting them in our customer’s homes either.

These replacement window brands are highly ranked, but we also work with distributors who offer other top-quality options. If you have a favorite brand that is not on our list, please let us know. We will make every effort to accommodate your preferences. The market boasts a variety of exceptional brands.

Window FAQs

In each window catalog the first column next to pricing says U.I. What does U.I. Mean?

U.I. Stands for United Inches. When you measure your window always measure the width first and the height second — add the two figures together and that number is the total united inches. (Example 36 X 36 =3D 72 U.I.) Note: Always round off measurements to the next highest inch. Once you have the total united inches of your window find the bracket your window fits in and the price of the window will be next to that bracket. When it is time to order your windows one of our consultants will recheck all measurements before the order is placed. Most windows take about three weeks to make. Installation for 10 to 12 windows usually takes about 1 day.

What are the different types of windows?

There are many different types of windows. It can be a difficult to decide which type of replacement window will fit best into your style, size, and space of your home.  Our experience sales representatives will help you make these decisions.  Click on the link below to learn more about different types of windows.

Learn about the different replacement window styles

If all windows are custom made to fit the same opening where my old window was, can I put any style replacement window in that opening? (Style meaning how the window opens).

Usually the size of the opening dictates what style of window you can choose. For example, if your window opening is wider than it is taller, the least expensive window would be a sliding or a casement window. If your window is taller that it is wider, then a window that opens up and down might be best. In some cases where the opening is of average size you have a choice of four styles such as picture, slider, double hung or casement. In each window catalog you will find size limitations for width and height for each window style.

When a window operates up and down, I have heard the term single hung and double hung. What is the difference?

The terms single hung and double hung refer to windows that operate up and down. A single hung window is fixed at the top and only the bottom sash opens. On a double hung window, both the top sash and bottom sash open and both usually tilt-in for cleaning.

Is a double pane window the same as a thermal pane window?

NO! Just because a window has two panes of glass, it cannot be considered a thermal pane window. A double pane window that has two panes of single strength glass is just that, a window that has two panes of glass. A thermal pane window will have two panes of double-strength lowE glass and may be Argon-filled as well. These are some of the options that make a thermal window.

James Hardie – (Fiber Cement Siding)

Fiber cement siding is quickly gaining in popularity. This type of siding is made by combining cellulose fibers with cement which creates a product that is moisture resistant, fire resistant, and insect proof. It is impact resistant, stands up well to severe storms, is durable, not prone to warping or cracking and requires little to no maintenance. Fiber cement siding comes in a variety of colors and styles; anything from wood grain to brick and more modern styles.

Installation of fiber cement siding is more labor intensive than other siding choices as it is much heavier and can take longer to install. After the old siding is stripped away, your siding contractor will install a vapor barrier. This increases the home’s moisture resistance and insulation. Then, your new siding, in your choice of color combinations, gives your home its new look.

We proudly offer Fiber Cement Siding by:

James Hardie Siding

James Hardie is by far, the most well-known manufacturer of fiber cement siding. They invented fiber cement technology in the 1980s and have been continuously raising the bar in the industry ever since. Fiber cement has the look and feel of wood, but the strength and durability to stand up against the elements over decades. James Hardie siding comes in a wide variety of styles such as lap plank, shingle, vertical panel and panel and channel.

HRTI’s expertise with fiber cement siding spans all styles and aesthetics. We are adept at installing lap siding horizontally, vertically or diagonally. We keep panel and channel applications constant. We prefer James Hardie for fiber cement siding for its qualities.

Customizable

They also have trim boards and soffit panels. This allows homeowners to fashion the exact look they want to achieve for their homes. It is easy to see why James Hardie remains the leader in fiber cement siding.

Stands Up to the Elements

HRTI recommends James Hardie to its customers for many reasons. James Hardie siding provides superior resistance to UV rays and hail. It also does not expand, buckle or crack when exposed to repeated precipitation and drying. All of these are important factors in the sometimes harsh, Colorado weather.

Durable

Their siding stands up against pests. It is insusceptible to birds and insects and is moisture and rot resistant. Fiber cement is also non-combustible. It will NOT ignite. Be sure to talk to your insurance agent about the fire protection and hail resistant aspects of this siding potentially lowering the cost of your homeowners’ policy.

Versatile

Many beautiful looks and aesthetics can be achieved with an almost impermeable barrier to the elements with Hardie’s multiple options of styles and colors. James Hardie’s Colorplus® Technology provides greater resistance to fading, chipping and cracking which means less maintenance for you.

The siding is offered in a robust array of standard colors based on your geographic region. Should you need more options, there are over 700 shades in their Colorplus® Technology palette. It comes primed and ready for painting in the field. James Hardie offers a 15-year warranty on color, 15-year trim warranty, and 30-year siding warranty.

Mastic & Alside – (Vinyl Siding)

Vinyl siding is the most popular type of siding in the country. It is durable, cost effective, insect and rot resistant. It comes in a wide variety of colors, designs, and styles to fit the look of most homes and is virtually maintenance free. Vinyl stands up well to most storms and climates.

While there are different grades of vinyl siding, at HRTI, we prefer to only install high grade vinyl siding for our homeowners. These are thicker and will last for decades. They also allow color to set deeper in the material which prevents fading and creates more durability against severe weather.

Vinyl siding is easy and quick to install. We typically install your new siding directly over your old siding which provides additional insulation. Most siding installations take 2 days from start to finish. Our expert siding contractor crew installs vinyl more than any other type of siding.

We proudly offer vinyl siding by:

Mastic Structure Vinyl Siding

Mastic is a leading manufacturer of vinyl siding. They offer products with a variety of styles, such as lap, vertical or cedar shake, and many different colors. Our favorite product of theirs is the Mastic Structure Insulated Siding line. This product offers increased insulation for your home and is manufactured with a superior gluing method, ensuring that your siding will last for many, many years. Mastic Structure siding will add an R4 value to your home – increasing insulation and adding to the energy efficiency. They are Energy Star qualified and should help to decrease heating and cooling bills for your home.

Maintenance

Mastic Structure siding is a 0-maintenance product. All that’s required is a hose to keep your siding looking brand new! The foam insulation in Structure siding also provides 300% more impact resistance than traditional vinyl siding, protecting your home from hail and severe storms.

Mastic offers a limited lifetime warranty – from our experience, they have been easy to work with and handle claims quickly for our homeowners. Installation is quick and easy and is usually completed within a few days.

Alside Prodigy Siding

Alside is a leading manufacturer of home exterior products. They offer many different siding products from vinyl to steel. However, our favorite Alside product to install for our homeowners is their Prodigy insulated vinyl siding. We prefer their insulation product to many others on the market today.

Alside Prodigy Siding is backed by 1 1/2” of foam insulation, increasing the R-value of your home and providing excellent energy efficiency. R-value is a way of measuring how much resistance their is to heat flow. The higher the R-value the better when it comes to insulation and keeping your home warm.

Alside has a thicker foam insulation backing than Mastic Structure while having a higher R-value. The thicker foam is a benefit with the higher R-value, but it can also cause problems.

Thicker Foam Results

The thicker siding pushes the surface of the siding further away from the house which may cause your windows to appear recessed. In that case, we will trim out your windows to give them a seamless look. Our siding experts will be happy to talk through all the options with you, contact us here.

Two Options for Prodigy

Prodigy Siding is offered in clapboard or dutch lap siding with a natural looking wood grain. Both can be painted with one of 21 colors that are guaranteed for life. Taking care of your Prodigy Siding is easy and only requires a hose to keep it looking new forever. Alside offers a limited lifetime warranty on their Prodigy Siding.

There are many different choices in siding for your home and it can be overwhelming to make a decision. Contact us to talk with a siding expert about your project.

Alcoa – (Aluminum Siding)

Aluminum siding has stood the test of time as a popular siding choice. It is heat and fire resistant, insect and rust resistant and very low maintenance. It looks good for years and holds up well to many different types of weather. Most manufacturers offer a wide range of colors and styles to suite the taste of individual homeowners.

While there are many benefits to aluminum siding, there are some things to look out for. Aluminum siding can dent and scratch easily and is easily damaged by hail, heavy rain, and the stray baseball. While there is a wide range of colors offered, the color has been known to get a chalky look within a few years. The vinyl coated aluminum siding products are priced higher than all vinyl siding and provide less benefits.

We proudly offer aluminum siding by:

Edco – (Steel Siding)

Steel siding is another metal choice offering a few benefits over aluminum. Steel siding is typically thicker than aluminum making it more difficult to dent and scratch. It is heat and insect resistant, prone to rusting. It is important to re-paint any areas that get scratched quickly to prevent rusting.

Steel siding is more expensive material than aluminum and can have a higher installation cost due to the weight of the product and labor required for installation. Steel siding can be a wonderful alternative for certain homeowners looking for a long-lasting, heavy duty siding. The steel siding we install comes with a lifetime warranty.

We proudly offer steel siding by:

Blue Stain Pinewood Kill, Clear Cedar, Montana Timber, Shou Sugi Ban – (Specialty Natural Wood Siding)

There are many different ways to side a house with wood. HRTI specializes in natural wood siding with a focus on the extraordinary.  Set your home apart in the neighborhood utilizing custom creations with natural wood applications for your home.

Pros of Natural Wood:

  • Beautiful natural aesthetic
  • Wide variety of options for customization
  • Good insulator

Cons of Natural Wood:

  • Requires regular maintenance (staining, sealing)
  • Susceptible to rot and insect damage
  • More expensive than some other options

Blue Stain Pinewood Kill refers to pinewood, dead before its time as the result of Pine Beetle infestation. The Pine Beetle makes tunnels through the tree creating a pattern of ridges and grooves in the wood. It is then treated with a special stain that accelerates the natural weathering process, giving it a bluish-gray hue. This creates a rustic, reclaimed wood appearance.

Cedar is a naturally rot-resistant softwood known for its dimensional stability and warm color.

Clear cedar refers to unstained cedar, which weathers to a beautiful silver-gray over time with very few knots in the wood, if any.  Cedar requires less maintenance than other woods but can still benefit from periodic sealing.

Montana Timber is a custom-milled wood siding in the USA that offers a rustic aesthetic and provides excellent durability to weathering. Regular staining or painting to keep up appearances is required but otherwise can be kept clean with soap and water. Choose the wood species from Cedar, Douglas fir, or Hemlock.

Shou Sugi Ban is a Japanese technique involving charring unfinished cedar planks to create a fire-resistant, weatherproof exterior with a distinctive textured look. The charring process creates a range of colors from light brown to black. The process not only colors and textures the wood, but preserves it as well.

Choosing the Right Roofing Materials

There are many different types of roofing materials that homeowners may choose to put on their roof. Usually the material you choose depends on budget, HOA and/or insurance requirements, climate, and aesthetics. We offer our homeowners asphalt, formed resin, concrete tile and stone-coated steel roofs. We sell roofing materials from a variety of manufacturers so that our homeowners have access to the highest quality products. Read below for more information on different roofing materials and to learn more about the brands we carry. If you would like to talk to one of our roofing experts or receive a free in-home consultation and evaluation of your roof, please contact us.

HRTI offers the following types of roofing materials from quality brands such as GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and others – we’ve chosen these because of their excellent durability, look, and value.

We stand behind all of our products:

img1

GAF, CertainTeed, Tamko, Ownens Corning – (Asphalt)

Asphalt roofs are among the most popular roofing materials in the country. They come in a wide variety of colors, thicknesses, and are an affordable choice. The asphalt shingles we have chosen to offer our homeowners are anywhere from 30-50 year shingles, depending on the brand and type. These shingles are very resistant to wind and severe weather and can stand up to most storms. Asphalt roofs are offered in standard shingles, impact resistant (IR) singles, or triple laminate (TL) shingles.

Asphalt roofs offer fast installation. They are usually finished within 2 days. Installation however, does rely on the weather. If an asphalt shingle is installed in temperatures too cold, you run the risk of the self-sealing adhesive strips not adhering completely. This could cause shingles to come off of your roof during high winds and severe storms and possibly leak.

We believe installation should only take place when the temperatures will be warm enough to allow the adhesive to adhere to your roof. The exact temperatures can depend on the manufacturer and product, but we typically like to see forecasted temperatures in the 40’s or warmer.

We offer our homeowners the following brands of asphalt roofs:

DaVinci Belaforte, DaVinci Single-Width/Multi-Width – (Formed Resin)

We love installing formed resin roofs for our homeowners. We feel this is the best product with the highest quality shingle, best warranty, and beautiful look. This roofing material is impact resistant (IR) and is among the top in wind speed ratings.

We’ve chosen to offer DaVinci brand formed resin roofs for the look, style, durability, and ease of installation. We can offer our homeowners a wide variety of colors and styles to fit with your home and area.   These shingles are made to resist fading so they look wonderful years after you install your new roof.

When installing formed resin roof, there is no additional structural support required like there is when installing a concrete tile roof. The shingles are nailed down in a similar way to wood shake roofs; there is no self-sealing adhesive strip as there is with asphalt roofs. Because of this, we can install this roof in lower temperatures than asphalt roofs without compromising the quality of the install.

When choosing your formed resin roof style and color, you may want to consider adding snow anchors. These roofs can be slippery when wet, allowing snow to slide off your roof in sheets before it has a chance to melt. You may end up with a large pile of snow on your walkways and in front of your entrances with every snow storm. Installing snow anchors, at least over your walkways and entrances, keeps the snow on your roof until it melts. We highly recommend this in our region.

We offer our homeowners the following brands of formed resin roofs:

Decra, Decra XD – (Stone-Coated Steel)

Stone-coated steel roofs are durable and long-lasting. They are impact resistant (IR) roofs and are resistant to hail, wind, and severe storms. They are made to resemble wood shake roofs and are offered in a wide variety of styles and colors to fit the look of your home and neighborhood. The stone coating that makes these roofs so durable also provides a layer of resistance to fading and UV penetration, ensuring that your roof looks great years after you put it up.

Depending on which product you choose, installation can vary. If you’d like your roof to more closely resemble a wood shake roof and have more dimension, a batten system will need to be installed first. Our installation team will use 2×2’s to create a batten on your roof. Once that is installed on your roof, the shingles will be layered.

This not only provides a beautiful look, but also reduces energy consumption in your home. If you don’t mind a look that has less dimension, the stone-coated steel shingles can be installed directly to your roof without the batten system. This will result in a look that lays more flat on your roof, but is still very attractive.

You do have to be sure to be careful when walking on your stone-coated steel roof. The shingles can be easily dented if walked on improperly. It doesn’t sound like such a big deal, who goes up on their roof very often? But make sure that anytime you or another contractor goes up on your roof to paint, clean your gutters, or put up Christmas Lights, that you follow the manufacturer directions for walking on the shingles.

We offer our homeowners the following brands of stone-coated steel roofs:

Boral – (Concrete Tile)

Concrete tiles can be wonderful roofing materials for your home. Once installed, it’s virtually maintenance-free and provides wonderful insulation for your home. Concrete tile roofs are fire, rot and insect resistant. The color choices aren’t as plentiful as asphalt or formed resin, but the look and feel it can give to your home is unique and full of character.

While this product is awesome and can last a lifetime, there are some issues that can make it seem less desirable. This will depend on how your home was built and the climate. Concrete tiles are a very heavy material, weighing roughly 9 lbs/sqft.; as compared to asphalt shingles at 2 lbs/sqft or formed resin at about 3 lbs/sqft. If you take your average size home which needs approximately 30 squares of roofing materials and multiply this by 9 lbs, you end up with a roof weighing around 27,000 lbs – that’s equivalent to 4 Ford F-150 pick-up trucks!

This added weight requires an engineer to spec out your attic and your contractors to build a support system strong enough to hold the weight of this roof. Once installed, these roofs look fantastic, but prepare for a more involved and expensive installation process.

Concrete tile roofs are not considered Impact Resistant (IR) and do tend to crack during severe hail storms or if walked on improperly. In this case, individual tiles can be replaced, but there could be a color difference because of fading over time. Be sure when you or other contractors are walking on your roof to paint, clean gutters, put up Christmas lights, or retrieve a baseball, that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions so that tiles aren’t broken.

We offer our homeowners the following brand of concrete tile roofs:

CeDUR – (Synthetic Shake)

A synthetic shake roof captures the natural warmth and character of cedar shingles, without the drawbacks of traditional cedar shake like high maintenance, climate concerns and fire danger. Crafted with realism unlike any other, the innovative blend of polymers used provides unparalleled performance for your home.

Synthetic shake roofs are unmatched in durability. They resist harsh weather, rot, insects, and fire for a lifetime of beauty. Not only are they long lasting, but they are virtually maintenance-free. There is no staining or sealing required like is necessary with natural wood.

Their lightweight design makes synthetic shingles ideal for re-roofing projects which can increase your curb appeal and the value of your home. In many cases, the use of synthetic shake may lower your insurance costs as well. It boasts a Class-A fire rating and is Class 4 Impact Rated. They are also certified to 115 mph wind speeds.

With a long lifespan, garnering a 50-year lifetime limited warranty, synthetic shake is a sustainable choice and an environmentally friendly option. Synthetic shake is also easy on the wallet over the course of its life in maintenance costs.

We offer our homeowners the following brand of synthetic shake roofs:

Roofing FAQs

What are my first steps to getting a new roof?

Replacing your roof is a big project, but the first steps are all about preparation and information gathering.

  1. The first step is to inspect your roof yourself. Look for missing or damaged shingles, leaks, and any visible signs of wear and tear. Also, take note of the style of roof you have (gable, hip, etc.) which will help you narrow down material options.
  2. Next get a free estimate by contacting HRTI for a roof replacement. Ask about the materials we use, the warranty we offer, and know we are licensed and insured.
  3. Then choose your materials. There are a variety of roofing materials available, each with its own pros and cons. Asphalt shingles are the most common and affordable option, while metal roofs are more durable but more expensive. Consider your budget, the climate, and the overall look of your house when making your decision.

Do you provide quality assurance inspections during roof installation?

Of course we can. Quality assurance includes several tasks by an inspector such as verification of materials, inspection of installation techniques, checking waterproofing integrity and proper adherence to building codes.

Do you work with General Contractors/ Construction Managers?

At HRTI, we are a General Contractor. We have the ability to handle more of your project than just the roof and gutters. We can manage an entire construction project. This can be a huge benefit, especially for complex projects or if you don’t have the time or expertise to manage everything yourself.
